GetUpp is designed to help users find motivation and stop procrastination. The app is literally a goal monitoring system that allows users (and their contacts) to see if they are keeping up with the commitments they make each day. The way GetUpp works is by giving users a place to list their commitments. These could be very simple, like having dinner, meeting a friend or visiting the gym. The user enters the commitment with a time and date. GetUpp records the commitment and counts down to the time it is supposed to happen. The application automatically verifies whether the user completed the task by checking to make sure that the user is at the location at the time listed on the commitment (via mobile device). The outcome is posted to the user’s Facebook profile where their friends can see it. If the user does not follow through with the commitment, this is also posted so the user stays motivated through peer pressure. GetUpp can help many users take responsibility and pay closer attention to the commitments they make. The GetUpp website is available in both English and German languages.Show more screenshots »
GetUpp was founded in January of 2011 by Stephan Tolksdorf and Johannes Bruder. Based out of Hamburg, Germany, the pair wanted to create a location-based app that would help users follow through with their commitments. By adding a social element, GetUpp found a way to encourage users to avoid procrastination. GetUpp received over $50,000 in seed funding in January of 2011.
What really makes GetUpp unique is the way the application combines social pressure and motivation. Through GetUpp, users can find an easy way to push themselves to follow through on their commitments. The verification system is also another unique feature because it automatically determines whether the user was where they were supposed to be when they were to be there.
The GetUpp website has an upbeat blue and white color scheme that gives it an energetic appearance. The upper right hand corner provides links that allows the user to toggle between English and German languages. The mobile app presents the user with a map and countdown to each commitment they make. Additional details are also provided so the user can make sure they have everything they need to get things done.
GetUpp uses Facebook as a main source of motivation. This is where the results of the user’s commitment are posted each time they miss or complete a task on time. Naturally, Facebook would be a log in option for GetUpp. Users who wish to utilize the application can click the blue and white “Login with Facebook” button found in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. This is the only way to register for GetUpp, but it makes sense considering the app requires a Facebook account to use.
GetUpp can help many users stay on task, however it does not offer any functions that would warrant a fee. Anyone can begin using GetUpp for free. There are no subscription costs or other charges for doing so. The app works through the user’s Facebook profile, so the user will need to have one to begin using GetUpp.
GetUpp is a valuable tool for anyone who uses Facebook and wants to find a better way to stay motivated. The app is easy to use and holds the user responsible for their actions by automatically determining whether they were at the place they were supposed to be at the time indicated on their commitment.
